Magnetic Locks – In-Swinging vs. Out-Swinging Doors

The difference between in-swinging and out-swinging doors affects what side of the magnetic door lock is mounted on. Looking at the outside of the door, you want to pick an out-swinging lock if the door opens to you. If the door swings away from you, then you will require an in-swinging configuration. Mounting the magnetic lock on the appropriate side of the door prevents someone from having direct access to the lock itself, ensuring the electromagnetic lock is installed for the highest level of safety and is not accessible by vandals. It is important to identify which door type you have so you can properly select the appropriate magnetic door lock mounting method.

Your electromagnetic lock should be mounted on the “secure side” of the door.

Out-Swinging Doors – These doors swing away from your “secure side”. Imagine you are standing on the secure side of the door (perhaps inside a building). If you push the door out to the outside to exit, this is an out-swinging door.

In-Swinging Doors – These doors swing into your “secure side” – you pull them towards you when opening. Imagine you are standing on the secure side of the door (perhaps inside a building). If you pull the door into the room in order exit, this is an in-swinging door.
